General Information

Passport to College is an innovative education, business, community and family partnership. The goal of the program is to increase the region's college going rate by making college education possible for all high school graduates. This program orginally targeted the 12,500 5th graders enrolled in elementary schools within the San Joaquin Delta College service district in 2006. As we enter Fall 2009, there are currently 7,000 8th graders enrolled in Passport to College.

All Passport to College students will be provided with the following services:

• Two years free enrollment at San Joauqin Delta College
• Presentations by college staff and students to reinforce the importance of a college education
• Workshops in middle school and  high school on planning ahead for college
• Field trips to San Joaquin Delta College campus
• Parent meetings to answer questions, provide support, and share ongoing program updates
• Informational newsletters to assist in promoting each student's education
• Rewards for perfect attendance on a quarterly basis
• Follow up with students as they prepare for college transfer and certificate programs

Delta College has made a pledge to provide each student enrolled in the Passport to College program with free tuition to attend Delta College for two years upon earning a high school diploma, GED or passing the California High School Proficiency Exam.

Student Parent Requirements:

• Parents must attend one meeting annually with their student
• Students must participate in scheduled Passport to College activities through their school
• Must graduate from a high school within the San Joauqin Delta College District service area
