STEPS TO SUCCESS CHECKLIST

STEP 1: ADMISSION (209) 954-5151

Individuals who have never attended San Joaquin Delta College and those students who have not attended for more than one semester must apply ONLINE for admission to the college before enrolling in classes.

Applications may be completed at the following locations:

Accessing San Joaquin Delta College's online application.

Electronic Enrollment Services Lab, Cunningham 226 (Stockton Campus)

South Campus a Mountain House, 2073 S. Central Parkway, Mountain House, CA 95376

The next business day after the processing of your application, Delta College will assign a student e-mail account to each new student.  All correspondence from Admissions and Records, Financial Aid, and other important campus information is e-mailed to students at their Delta College e-mail address.

After processing, students must login to Online Registration to obtain their Delta ID number. Students should use their social security number as the login and their date of birth entered as mmddyy as the password. Students should record both their Delta ID number and student email address for future reference.

STEP 2: ACADEMIC ASSESSMENT/PLACEMENT

All new and non-exempt (see below for exempt status) students are required to take a reading, English, and mathematics assessment called, Assessment-COMPASS Evaluation (ACE).  ACE combines an academic skills assessment using a computerized test called COMPASS with a brief e-orientation.

Students must make an appointment to take an ACE.  You may make an appointment by clicking Schedule An Appointment.  Priority seating will be given to students who make an ACE appointment and who have their ACE appointment confirmation page with them at the time and date of the test.  Picture I.D. is also required to be admitted to the test. For more information concerning your Delta ID number refer to Step 1 above.

All assessments are scheduled in the Academic Assessment Center, Cunningham 220.  To view sample ACE questions, click COMPASS Sample Questions.  If you are an English as a Second Language (ESL) student please click CELSA for information regarding the ESL assessment. 

Retakes and the Appeal Process - A student who thinks the ACE or ESL assessment did not measure his or her skill levels correctly may request a retake. Please contact the Academic Assessment Center, (209) 954-5535, Cunningham 220, for information regarding the retake. Further appeals may be made through the Admissions and Records Office, Holt 101.

A STUDENT MAY BE EXEMPTED FROM ASSESSMENT IF HE/SHE HAS
a) Earned a college degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the USA - indicate on application and provide copy of degree or official transcript to Evaluations Office: 5151 Pacific Ave, Stockton, Ca 95207.
b) Completed intermediate algebra AND college-level English composition at another regionally accredited college or university with a grade of "C" or better - provide official transcript to the Evaluations Office: 5151 Pacific Ave, Stockton, Ca 95207.
c) Decided to enroll in Level 1 basic skills course(s) in reading, English, and mathematics only.
d) Decided to exercise a "one course waiver" in a course with prerequisite, "none." A student may subsequently enroll in one course per term, provided that the previous course to which the waiver applies was passed with a grade of "C" or better.
e) An alternative assessment from other colleges - provide a copy to the Assessment Center or fax test scores to the attention of the Assessment Center at: (209) 954-3833.

STEP 3: ORIENTATION & COUNSELING (209) 954-5650

First time students are provided with a brief orientation immediately prior to their assessment. The assessment orientation counselor will explain the assessment process and meaning of the test scores in course enrollment. Information on the next steps in orientation and registration will also be covered. After assessment, all matriculated students (those wanting priority registration credit) are expected to enroll in Guidance 11, which is a .5 unit (8 hour) orientation class. All new students are encouraged to schedule an appointment to see a counselor later in the semester for career or long term educational planning.

During registration periods, counseling is available primarily on a walk-in basis. The Counseling Office is located in Danner Hall, Room 205. Office hours are Monday, Thursday, Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm and Tuesday, Wednesday, 8:00am - 7:00pm.

STEP 4: FINANCIAL AID (209) 954-5115

Delta College has a wide variety of financial assistance programs to help students with educational costs. The Financial Aid Office provides information on grants, fee waivers, scholarships, loans and work-study jobs available for qualified Delta College students. Application materials are available in the Admissions and Records & Financial Aid Office located in Holt Center, Room 101. Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00am - 5:00pm, and Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm.

STEP 5: REGISTRATION (209) 954-5151

Registration means enrolling in courses.

Registration is conducted via the Internet at www.deltacollege.edu. Internet access is unavailable on Holidays. In person registration is not available.
