5 Easy Steps for New Students

If you are considering attending Delta College, here are 5 easy steps to help get you started. Welcome to Delta College!

STEP 1: ADMISSION (209) 954-5151
Individuals who have never attended San Joaquin Delta College and those students who have not attended during the last 39 months must apply for Admission to the college before enrolling in classes. Applications must be completed Online. You can do this online from home or at the following location:

STEP 2: ACADEMIC ASSESSMENT/PLACEMENT (209) 954-5535
All new and nonexempt students are required to take a reading, English, and mathematics assessment. No appointment is necessary. Please refer to the assessment calendar for assessment testing times. You must provide a picture I.D. at the Academic Assessment Center, Goleman 122 at one of the scheduled testing times.
STEP 3: ORIENTATION & COUNSELING (209) 954-5650
Immediately following the assessment, students will receive a 1 1/2 hour orientation. Counselors will explain the results of assessment and sign students up to take a 1 day Guidance 75 New Student Orientation class, where counselors will help them prepare a first semester course list. Please click here for a list of date and times of the next Guidance 75 classes.

Full orientation classes (such as Guidance 10) are recommended for all first time students, in addition to completing the Guidance 75 class.

All new students are encouraged to schedule an appointment to see a counselor later in the semester for career or long term educational planning.

During registration periods, counselors are primarily available on a walk-in basis. Limited appointments may also be available. The Counseling Office is located in Danner Hall, Room 205. Office hours are Tues and Wed, 8:00am -7:00pm and Mon, Thurs and Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm.

STEP 4: FINANCIAL AID (209) 954-5115
Delta College has a wide variety of financial assistance programs to help students with educational costs. The Financial Aid Office provides information on grants, fee waivers, scholarships, loans and work-study jobs available for qualified Delta College students. Application materials are available in the Financial Aid Office located in Goleman Center, Room 125. Office hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 8:00am - 5:00pm, Tuesday, 8:00am - 7:00pm, and Friday, 8:00am - 2:00pm.

Registration means enrolling in courses. Registration is done by telephone at (209) 476-7997 or by Internet. For assistance in selecting courses, please refer to Step 3 above.
