| The English Department is an integral part of the English Language Arts Division and its mission to prepare students in transfer degree, certificate programs, and writing across the curriculum. The English program provides opportunities for students to expand their knowledge in both theory and practice. The department offers a variety of courses, including sequential writing courses to meet students' needs. English 1A (college level composition) and English 79 (pre-college level composition) each meet the written literacy requirement for the associate degree. Effective reading and writing skills are essential for success in vocational, business, and professional fields. All of the courses offered in the English program emphasize applicable writing and critical thinking skills; the courses also focus on developing awareness of human diversity. The goal of the English Department is to prepare students to better meet the communication challenges of the 21st Century. | ||||||||||
