| Kids College |
Kids College, part of the Community Education Department at San Joaquin Delta College, has been providing learning opportunities for the youth in our service area for over 18 years. This unique program offers children and teens academic and enrichment workshops on a college campus. Kids College workshops are designed to teach new and meaningful skills, develop new interests and hobbies, excite students about learning, as well as provide an opportunity for them to explore possible careers.
Kids College workshops (fee-based, not-for-credit) are provided after school, during school breaks, and on Saturdays each year during the fall, spring, and summer terms. Each workshop is individually priced based on the total number of classroom hours and the maximum number of students. They are scheduled based on the availability of classroom facilities and teachers.
New Workshops and Prospective Teachers
Kids College is always seeking new and innovative programming. The goal is to provide unique, challenging workshops that encourage young students to think and create. Interested persons who have teaching
experience (Note: a teaching credential is NOT required), expertise in a field, and a passion for working with youth are encouraged to explore this teaching opportunity. (For detailed information, click on "Potential Teachers & Workshop Proposals" button located on the left side column). Please contact Beverley Dierking, Kids College Coordinator, at 209-954-5015 if you have any questions, would like to discuss your ideas, or need assistance in completing the Workshop Proposal form.
Parents, grandparents, and the public are encouraged to make suggestions for future Kids College programming.
Your ideas are useful in assessing the needs of students in our community. Please click on: Interest Survey, complete the form, and mail to the Kids College address listed
below.
Safety
The safety of children is a primary concern of Kids College.
Students must be escorted to and picked up promptly from the class location, each session. Drop-offs are not
permitted.
Medical Emergency Release forms must be completed and signed by the student's
parent or legal guardian for each child at the beginning of each workshop. If a parent or legal
guardian is unable to bring their child to Kids College on the first day of a workshop, they must complete this
form in advance to process. In this case, please click on: Medical Emergency Release, complete the
form for each workshop, and send it with your child to give to the teacher at the beginning of a workshop.
Classroom/Campus Conduct
Kids College students must meet program standards of good conduct and behavior while on the Delta College campus
and at every class meeting. This means courteous attention, good manners and careful handling of equipment
being used. This is a college campus and college classes will be in session, thus, disruptive behavior is not
allowed. Students must follow the instructions given them by the teacher or a staff member. Failure
to follow this code of conduct may result in dismissal from the workshop with no refund from the Kids College
program. Parents are responsible for the cost of repairing or replacing any equipment that their child might
damage or break, either intentionally or through reckless behavior.
Special Request Programs
Kids College Special Request Programs may be developed for schools, student clubs, church youth groups, pre-school groups, community centers, and for home-schooled students. The special request programs can be scheduled for a group of 10 or more students, pending availability of the instructors and facilities. Please contact Kids College to explore the program possibilities.
Disclaimer: Kids College reserves the right to alter the schedule and change instructors or classrooms, if necessary.
