Alternate Format Procedures |
|
1. |
Eligibility for this service is determined by a Disability Support Programs and Services (DSPS) counselor based, in part, on disability verification provided by the student. |
2. |
Alternate formatting services must be authorized through a DSPS counselor before any formatting can begin. |
3. |
Students requesting materials in an alternate format must purchase the textbook before formatting can begin. |
4. |
Requests for materials in an alternate format will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Preference will be given to the format specified by the student. However, recommendations made by DSPS staff will be used in determining the specific media format for each academic course. |
5. |
Alternate format requests must be submitted before or as soon as the student registers for classes. Late requests and last minute course changes will be honored provided the student making the request understands that the Alternate Format Specialist will set the timeline for completion of the work accordingly. |
6. |
Turn around times for alternate media requests are determined on a case-by-case basis. DSPS will make every effort to complete the request in a timely manner. |
7. |
When creating alternate media from textbooks, the book binding may be cut off. A comb binding will replace the original binding before the book is returned to the student. If the student is unwilling to have the binding cut off a textbook, DSPS may not be able to provide alternate formatting accommodations. |
8. |
The student may not copy or reproduce any alternate media provided by DSPS, nor allow anyone else to do so. Misuse of this material may result in disciplinary action by DSPS and/or San Joaquin Delta College. |
9. |
If a student repeatedly abuses DSPS alternate format services by not picking up requested alternate formatted material, the student will be required to meet with a DSPS counselor to discuss proper use of alternate formatting services. |
