COURSE OUTLINE:
This course is a survey made through lecture, demonstration and laboratory experience on all technical phases of scene and costume production including construction, painting, rigging, placement, and manipulation of stage scenery, lighting equipment, sound, properties, and selection of materials. Thestudent will gain knowledge of a director's concept as it specificallyapplies to the sets, properties, costumes, sound and lighting. (CSU) Practicalexperience executing the technical work on department productions is required.

OBJECTIVES:
The student will demonstrate a proficiency of all phases of play production including costume construction, construction, painting, rigging, placement, and manipulation of stage scenery, lighting equipment, properties and the stagecraft terminology.The student will gain knowledge of how to establish and develop a production concept into technical applications. The student will demonstrate a proficiency of all phases of play production including the director's production concept. The student will apply production concept to their knowledge of scene shop operation, maintenance and safety procedures regarding the usage of tools and technical equipment, building materialsand fastening methods, blueprint reading, and the overall planning aspectsof a theatrical production. The student will define and demonstrate knowledge of the costume shop operation, maintenance and safety procedures regarding the usage of tools and technical equipment, materials, dying, sewing, pattern usage, and the overall planning aspects of a theatrical production. Thestudent will gain knowledge of literary and character analysis as it appliesto the design or scenery, lighting and costumes.

REQUIREMENTS:

A. Strict adherence to district policies.
YOU WILL BE DROPPED FROM THE CLASS AFTER THE SIXTH ABSENCE.

B. Assignment to a backstage crew.
C. Having your supplies with you at all work/lab sessions.
D. Properly following all instructions and safety regulations.
E. PARTICIPATION in both the class and backstage on crew.
F. Exams and Projects.
