OUTLINE:
This is a survey course with lecture, demonstration and laboratoryexperience on all technical phases of scene and costume production includingconstruction, painting, rigging, placement, and manipulation of stage scenery,lighting equipment, sound, properties, and selection of materials. Thestudent will further study the aesthetics and practical applications, andthe principles of set, sound, lighting, and costume design as it appliesto the actor's performance. (CSU) Practical experience executing the technicalwork on department productions is required.

OBJECTIVES:
The student will demonstrate a proficiency of all phases of play production including costume construction, construction, painting, rigging, placement, and manipulation of stage scenery, lighting equipment, properties and the stagecraft terminology. The student will define and demonstrate knowledge of scene shop operation, maintenance and safety procedures regarding theusage of tools and technical equipment, building materials and fasteningmethods, blueprint reading, and specific aspects of planning a theatricalproduction. The student will define and demonstrate knowledge of the costumeshop operation, maintenance and safety procedures regarding the usage oftools and technical equipment, materials, dying, sewing, pattern usage,and the overall planning aspects of a theatrical production. The studentwill gain knowledge of literary and character analysis as it applies tothe design or scenery, lighting and costumes.

REQUIREMENTS:

A. Strict adherence to district policies. YOU WILL BE DROPPED FROM THE CLASS AFTER THE SIXTH ABSENCE.
B. Assignment to a backstage crew.
C. Having your supplies with you at all work/lab sessions.
D. Properly following all instructions and safety regulations.
E. PARTICIPATION in both the class and backstage on crew.
F. Exams and Projects.


GRADING:

160 points for exams
80 points for final project
80 points for crew work
