Prerequisites:
Reading Level II or concurrent enrollment in reading; Drama 1B; concurrent enrollment in Drama 19A, 19B, 19C or 19D or completion of Drama 19D; Qualified performer.

Catalog Statement:
This course is a practical, performance-oriented one designed to introduce the career-oriented drama student to an integrated program of intermediate skills in actor training. Studies will include intermediate audition techniques and Shakespeare scene study, intermediate scene study and project workin one or more classic styles.

 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

 General Aims:
 
 

1.To continue an exploration of advanced audition skills andtechniques and how they apply to acting as an integrated whole.

 2.To identify, examine and understand theories and practices of Shakespeare scene study and monologue work and how they apply to actingas an integrated whole.

 3.To identify and understand the skills and techniques of period acting styles and how they apply to acting as an integrated whole.

 4.To develop a working command of integrated acting skills through applied practice, discussion, and evaluation.


 Specific Objectives:
 

 1.Further explore and evaluate, through, individual presentation, audition monologues from classic and contemporary theatre.

 2.Examine and discuss in detail the theories andpractices of performing Shakespeare.

 3.Explore and evaluate, through theatre exercises, the theories and practices of performing Shakespeare.

 4.Explore and evaluate, through partner scene study,the theories and practices of performing Shakespeare.

 5.Identify and explain the techniques and meaning of period gesture.

 6.Become familiar with the styles of movement inperiod costume.

 7.Understand how to use the voice in period plays.

 8.Synthesize the stylistic elements needed to performa period role.

 9.Demonstrate the skills covered in the course.
