You’ll arrive in the capital city, San Jose, and then travel on to La Fortuna, near the ancient Poas Volcano, said to be the widest crater in the world. You’ll visit Cano Negro, a 20,000-acre nature preserve with the largest viewable selection of indigenous wildlife. You’ll embark on a guided river boat trip in a panga (a covered canoe), making frequent stops to watch and photograph the wildlife, which may include crocodiles, river otters, sloths, river turtles, exotic birds, and rare butterflies. After that, you can soak in the mineral waters, stroll the grounds, or take advantage of the first-class spa services. The next day, you’ll travel into the Monteverde Cloud Forest, where trees grow to heights of 100 feet, where you’ll encounter many incredible species of flora and fauna. Your visit includes an exciting opportunity to fly through the cloud forest on a zip line canopy tour or take a guided walk among the treetops on a series of hanging bridges! You’ll end the day by visiting one of the world’s largest butterfly gardens. The next day, you’ll go on a morning nature walk, where you can keep an eye out for the endangered quetzal, celebrated for its gorgeous jewel-toned plumage. In the afternoon, you’ll visit a local coffee production facility. Next, it’s a trip to the Guanacaste region on the northwest Pacific coast. You’ll make a special stop at a small cooperative where locals showcase their colorful handmade products. Spend the afternoon at the beach enjoying the ocean views and lush tropical greenery. The next day is yours to enjoy Tamarindo Beach by exploring the nearby town and beaches, relaxing by the pool, or playing golf. On the way back to San Jose, you’ll stop in Sarchi, where you’ll tour the local oxcart factory and have time to shop for authentic handicrafts. Your farewell dinner will be in San Jose, where your tour ends. The next day, you’ll depart for home with fabulous memories of your adventures in “Tropical Costa Rica!”

Monument of Prince Henry the Navigator
Your tour begins in Estoril on the Portuguese Riviera, where you’ll see the Baroque Palacio de Mafra, a palace, basilica, and monastery. Next, you’ll visit Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage site and summer residence of Portuguese kings for six centuries. You’ll continue along the shoreline to Cascais, where you’ll dine at Adega Machado’s; local artists will perform Fado, the plaintive songs of longing accompanied by the guitarra and viola. In Lisbon, you’ll tour the Moorish Alfama Quarter and see Jeronimo’s Monastery, built in the 16th century, and the Monument to the Discoveries, which honors intrepid Portuguese explorers. You’ll also travel to Portugal’s beautiful Silver Coast, a region filled with sleepy villages, rich vineyards, and age-old castles, and stop in Obidos, Nazare, and Fatima, the world-famous pilgrimage site. Next up is a stop in Evora, a UNESCO World Heritage site, known as the “Museum City of Portugal.” You’ll have an entire day to experience the beautiful Algarve region, then it’s on to the Cape of St. Vincente and a trip to Lagos, where you’ll see the palace of the famous voyager, Prince Henry the Navigator. Later, you’ll visit Silves, which boasts an interesting Moorish and Roman history, where you can visit the cork museum and learn about this local craft and cork’s many uses. On the way back to Lisbon, you’ll stop to visit Azeitao, a charming agricultural village known for red wine, olive trees, and beautiful country estates. You’ll also visit a shop to see how the Portuguese make their famous hand-painted tiles, known as “azulejos,” then enjoy a tour and tasting of local wines. You’ll leave from Lisbon with wonderful memories of “Sunny Portugal!”

Featuring Charleston, Savannah, & Jekyll Island
Tour beautiful Charleston, South Carolina, with its magnificent formal gardens that grace the beauty of the Colonial, Antebellum, and Victorian architecture. See the battery overlooking For Sumter, where the first shots of the Civil War were fired on April 12, 1861. Visit Boone Hall, one of the Low Country’s largest cotton plantations, the charming town of Beaufort, the “Queen of the Carolina Sea Islands,” and Savannah, the largest National Historic Landmark area in the United States. Tour the city and visit the Andrew Low Home and Gardens, home of Juliette Low, founder of the Girl Scouts. Traveling south along the coast of Georgia, home of the Garden Isles, you’ll see vast marshlands, winding rivers, and beautiful beaches, and arrive at Jekyll Island. The Jekyll Island Historic Landmark District is one of the nation’s largest restoration projects. Explore the 240-acre river edge and see grand “cottages” that once belonged to such notables as the Rockefellers, the Vanderbilts, and J. P. Morgan. Also tour the Museum of Coastal History and the 106-foot-tall St. Simons Lighthouse on St. Simons Island. In St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest city in the United States, visit the many museums and unique shops. You’ll return home via Jacksonville, Florida, having experienced true “Southern Charm!”
