This course introduces students to techniques of health assessment and physical examination. History taking is the focus for initial health assessment. Anatomy and physiology are reviewed to assist the student in distinguishing between normal and abnormal findings. Techniques essential to the performance of the physical exam are presented. Lifespan, culture, ethnicity and special populations are also considered. Nurses taking this course will also address nursing diagnoses associated with physical assessment findings. This course may also serve as an update for experienced healthcare practitioners. It may be taken with or without the associated laboratory experience.
