Interdisciplinary Studies: Teacher Education Preparation Option, Associate in ArtsThe Teacher Education Preparation Option is designed for the student planning a career in education or planning to transfer to a four year college or university to pursue the Baccalaureate degree in education, particularly in elementary school teaching. With careful planning the student desiring to transfer will be able to complete the Associate in Arts Degree while concurrently satisfying the lower division transfer preparation for the Baccalaureate degree and the requirements for the State-approved Multiple Subjects Credential Program. This degree is appropriate for the student who desires to attend the University of California, California State University, and many independent colleges and universities. This degree is not the SB 1440 Elementary Teacher Education AA-T degree designed specifically for transfer to the CSU. Delta College is developing the AA-T degree but it will not be available for the 2012-2013 academic year. Please check with a counselor or consult the college catalog for additional information about this AA-T degree. NOTE: Teacher Education Preparation programs vary widely in the required lower division preparation necessary for admission to specific campuses. Careful course selection is essential for successful transfer in a timely fashion. Students are encouraged to see a counselor and visit www.assist.org for assistance in developing an educational plan that will identify the lower division major preparation and general education coursework that corresponds to the intended transfer institution requirements. Counseling appointments may be scheduled online by selecting "Guidance and Counseling" under "Services and Support" on the Delta College Home page, or by calling the Guidance and Counseling Office at (209) 954-5151 Ext. 6276. Random selection of courses from this list will NOT sufficiently prepare the student for admission to a teacher preparation program. Failure to consult with a counselor may unnecessarily delay progress toward transfer. Please refer to the "Essential Transfer Information Checklist" located in the transfer section of the current college catalog. Courses in the Teacher Education Preparation option provide the student a broad integrative foundation in the Arts and Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Natural Sciences, Literature and Communication.
