Engineering, Math and Science Challenge

Applied Science & Technology Division

The goal for this competition is to excite young people about potential career areas in Engineering, Mathematics and Science. This is accomplished by providing students with the opportunity to have "fun" working on a variety of on-site projects and/or problems related to the engineering design, mathematics, life science, and physical science. Students from area high schools form teams consisting of three or four members each. These teams are given four challenges, one in each of the areas mentioned above, and are given three hours to work on these problems. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are awarded to each team member placing First, Second, and Third in each of the categories. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are also awarded for the best overall performances. The High School participants receive plaques for First, Second, and Third place in the drafting competition. "Engineering, Math, Science Challenge" is held annually during "Engineers' Week" in February. This activity receives financial support from local professional engineers, Delta College, and the San Joaquin County Office of Education.
