VOC NUR 006 - Advanced Medical/Surgical Nursing - Units 9
Prerequisites: VOC NUR-005 Intermediate Medical/Surgical Nursing with a grade of "C" or better.
Limitations on Enrollment: Acceptance into the Vocational Nursing Program.
This course is designed to present the concepts of wholistic nursing care to the client: 1)With immune system disorders including Human Deficiency Virus infection and cancer; 2) Trauma, emergencies and burns; 3) Experiencing grief and end of life issues; 4) Needing rehabilitative nursing including Home Health care. Leadership and supervisory roles of the LVN are also introduced to provide the student with an overview of the relationship of the LVN to other members of the health care team. Central to this course is the nursing preceptorship component that is designed to assist the student in the integration of all the concepts presented in the past forty-six weeks and the student`s accumulated understanding of the biological, psychological, sociological, cultural and spiritual aspects of nursing care along with fine tuning their organizational skills in order to provide safe, effective care in order to predict and prevent further illness and/or injury. Licensure exam preparation will also be included along with role transition from the student to the entry level nurse.
