VOC NUR 004 - Pediatric Nursing - Units 3.5

Prerequisites: VOC NUR-003 Obstetrical Nursing with a grade of "C" or better.

Limitations on Enrollment: Admission to the Vocational Nursing Program.

This course is designed to introduce the vocational nursing student to the fundamental issues and trends in pediatric nursing. The theoretical framework of wholism is applied in analyzing patient and family needs and the biological, psychological, sociological, cultural, and spiritual factors that may affect their interaction with the environment. Threaded throughout the course is a strong emphasis on growth and developmental changes that occur in the pediatric population. In addition to the maintenance of the well child, the student is introduced to familial influences on child health promotion, the mechanisms of disease, nutrition, and pharmacology. (CSU)
