VOC NUR 003 - Obstetrical Nursing - Units 3.5

Prerequisites: VOC NUR-002 Introduction to Medical and Surgical Nursing with a grade of "C" or better.

Limitations on Enrollment: Admission into the VN Program 1) For the student who is re-entering after a course failure and needs a refresher in course content in order to successfully complete the program.2) For the student who has completed the program and needs a refresher in course content in order to successfully pass their licensure exam.

This course is designed to prepare the vocational nursing student for the role of providing nursing care to low-risk childbearing families. The theoretical framework of wholism will be utilized for the identification of biological, psychological, developmental, sociological, cultural and spiritual needs of the client and family. The nursing process will be utilized for the planning and implementation of care. Fundamental issues, trends, and the role of the vocational nurse in childbearing nursing will be addressed.
