VOC NUR 002 - Introduction to Medical and Surgical Nursing - Units 8.5
Prerequisites: VOC NUR-001 Foundations of Nursing with a grade of "C" or better or Credit be granted for prior experience as stipulated by the Board of Vocational Nurses and Psychiatric Technicians.
Limitations on Enrollment: Admission into the Vocational Nursing Program.
This course is a continuance of the knowledge learned in Vocational Nursing 1 and Psychiatric Technician 001. The topics of study during this course are safe and accurate medication administration, nursing care of the peri-operative patient/client and patients/clients in the acute setting with common chronic medical-surgical disorders of the hematological, neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, genitourinary and endocrine systems. Emphasis of student is the assimilation of the concept, wholism, using the nursing process to develop critical thinking skills in order to promote and ensure safe, effective nursing care within the scope of practice of the Licensed Vocational Nurse and Licensed Psychiatric Technician. Licensed Psychiatric Technicians entering the Vocational Nursing Program may be able to have this course waived. (CSU)
