This course is a study in the theory and application of pneumatic power and how they apply to pneumatic compression and distribution systems. An analysis of the properties of air and how air is compressed and distributed is included. This course is an introduction to the concepts of electrical and electronic controls of hydraulic system pressure, flow, direction, and pump displacement as well as equipment position, velocity, and force magnitude. Operation of on-off solenoid valves, proportional valves, and servo valves are presented. Open loop and closed loop control system concepts, various sensors, and feedback devices used in modern hydraulic control circuits are included. (CSU)

Limitations on Enrollment: The student must enroll in a course that is directly related to industrial technology. The student must enroll in a minimum of 7 units during the semester including internship units. For the summer session, the student must enroll in one related course in addition to internship. The combined total number of units a student may take in internship, work experience, and occupational practice may not exceed a maximum of 16 units. Participation requires submission and approval of internship program objectives and an employer internship agreement.

This course is designed for the student participating in an occupational internship in industrial technology. Application of discipline-related skills and knowledge of Secretaries Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills (SCANS) competencies is emphasized. Each student is engaged in a specific research project or on-the-job learning activities under the supervision of a worksite supervisor and a college internship instructor. (CSU)
