Bio:

Hi! My name is Mariela Guzman, Associate Professor of Communication Studies. I have been teaching in higher education for more than 14 years. Delta College has been a part of my life for over two decades. My father was employed as a Groundskeeper at Delta in 1997 and I joined him as a student in 2001. Working beside him before his retirement was really special and I miss seeing him around campus.

Within the department, I teach Public Speaking and Intercultural Communication. My favorite course to teach is Public Speaking; it’s a great opportunity to create an environment of support and witness students showing mutual encouragement throughout the semester.

I am currently a faculty member of Delta’s Puente Program, whose goal is to increase the number of students who transfer to four-year universities. We strive to ensure that each cohort overcomes inequities and creates strong networking relationships. Learn more about it here: https://deltacollege.edu/department/puente-program

In my spare time I love to travel with my two daughters, engage in urban hikes and find vibrant restaurants with savory menus. Music is a constant in my life and no summer is complete without attending a handful of concerts.
